15th Annual Bent Tree Tour of Homes

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Well, let us see – we’re almost to September, some of the leaves are beginning to turn (and those steady 20 MPH winds the last 2 days have blown a lot of them right off), the little people have gone back to school, the football stadiums are all lit up on Friday and Saturday nights, it must be time for (drum roll please) The Bent Tree Tour of Homes.   This year’s tour is on September 13, 2008 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

This is actually a year long volunteer project and work on this year’s tour began shortly after last year’s very successful tour.  Each year a select number of home owners in Bent Tree agree to open their homes to hundreds of visitors anxious to see what Life in the Georgia Mountains is all about.  This year there are 4 homes and they will certainly offer a cross section of the types of homes available here.  For the second year in a row Appalachian Tech has partnered with the Tour to have their design students assist in preparing the homes for the show.  To make the day complete there will be an arts fair (30 artists) ,  a bake sale and a food court.  Visitors are shuttled between Club Tamarack and the individual homes by an armada of volunteer chauffeurs ( and yes yours truly will be one of them.   By special agreement with the committee, we don’t show homes for sale during tour hours – so I have to do something to keep busy.)

Tickets are $12 in advance and $14 on the day of the event.  Tickets are available at Bent Tree and some local banks and businesses.  I will post those when they are announced.  Proceeds go to support activities in Bent Tree and Local Charities.

The Bent Tree Tour of Homes is a great day and an exceptional opportunity to be introduced to Bent Tree before you actually start looking for, or even thinking about, what kind of home you might want to own in Bent Tree.   There are currently 93 homes for sale in Bent Tree as well as a great selections of building lots and we show all of them.  Come visit during the Tour of Homes and then give me a call or drop me a note and we’ll schedule a private tour to familiarize you with the amenities and a selection of homes selected based on your criteria.

See you ’round the Mountains,

North Georgia Arts Update

Monday, August 18th, 2008

If you don’t live in North Georgia, you might be surprised to learn that there is a thriving arts community that encompasses all the kinds of activities and programs one might find in a large urban or suburban area.

There are multiple groups of artists, musicians, sculptors and, yes, even Thespians.   I have been associated with local little theater group, The Tater Patch Players, for several years and one of the real joys of being in business in the community is having the opportunity to help sponsor some of their many events. This year I had the privilege to sponsor the entire year of quarterly poetry readings and they have all been outstanding.  On September 17th, the Players, under the capable guidance of director Carl Japikse, presented an afternoon of humorous poetry entitled ” Hijinks & Tomfoolery.

Golf In Bent Tree

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

As we were playing the Trouts Community Charity Open last week on Bent Tree’s beautiful Joe Lee designed course and again on Saturday when I had an old friend from Peachtree City up to play the course, I was reminded just what a beautiful course this is and how many lovely homes line its 18 fairways.

Trouts Community Charity Golf Tournament Fills Bent Tree

Tournament Host & Sponsor, Jack Short, Directs Traffic at the Start

Today was the annual Trouts Community Charity Golf Tournament. Jack Short, the owner of the two Trouts Beverage Stores located in Pickens County, elevates fund raising for local charities to an art form. He attracts so many players that foursomes won’t work – so he puts folks out in sixsomes! Bent Tree doesn’t own enough golf carts to put that many people on the course at once so they rent carts from local members to make up the difference. Now that is a one big tournament. Russell Smith, Bent Tree’s long time pro, and his staff did a great job of preparing the course, organizing the carts and managing the tournament play.
Jack brought together everything else. He has volunteers to assist in every phase of the tournament from check-in, to silent auction, to prizes, to drink carts and stations, food stations, lunch buffet, photography and contests – and even adult chaperones to monitor the “Hooters” girls out at the 13th tee. The result of the efforts of all those folks was that there were 180 thoroughly happy, thoroughly fed (and watered – if you know what I mean) and thoroughly charitable golfers scattered somewhat haphazardly all over Bent Tree’s tight, well bunkered and beautifully maintained Joe Lee designed course for most of the day. (The course is in great shape James – Keep up the good work!)
