Security vs Privacy – Quote of the Day

Tuesday, June 11th, 2013

We have all heard Sir Edmund Burke’s warning that, “Those who don’t know history are destined to repeat it.” Given all the current turmoil over the proper balance between our protection and our rights, I thought it might be useful to review a brief historical note from someone almost universally respected for having understood history pretty well.

“What constitutes the bulwark of our own liberty and independence? It is not our frowning battlements, our bristling sea coasts, the guns of our war steamers, or the strength our gallant and disciplined army? These are not our reliance against a resumption of tyranny in our fair land. All of those may be turned against our liberties, without making us weaker or stronger for the struggle. Our reliance is in the love of liberty which God has planted in our bosoms. Our defense is in the preservation of the spirit which prizes liberty as the heritage of all men, in all lands, everywhere. Destroy this spirit, and you have planted the seeds of despotism around your own doors. Familiarize yourselves with the chains of bondage and you are preparing your own limbs to wear them. Accustomed to trample on the rights of those around you, you have lost the genius of your own independence, and become the fit subjects of the first cunning tyrant who rises.” – Abraham Lincoln From an extemporaneous campaign discourse on the Declaration of Independence in 1858 reported in the Milwaukee Daily Sentinel, May 21, 1860.

The Tate Reserve

Friday, June 7th, 2013

I just wanted to give you a heads up that a great North Georgia community will have new homes coming out of the ground soon. More notes below the short video.

The Tate Reserve has actually been awaiting its unveiling for several years now. The original planned opening coincided with the major market downturn and the developers were fortunate enough to be able to wait for the market to come back. The roads and curbs are in and the lots are beautiful. The home owners will not only have the benefit of gated security, but also complete access to all the amenities over at Bent Tree, just a few minutes away.

I expect models to come out of the ground in weeks and the sales office to be geared up at the same time. I am familiar with the community and the developer and will be working to assist clients in the purchase of both lots and home packages. If you would like a private tour before the activity heats up, please give me a call. Once the sales office is open I will still be able to assit buyer clients from selection all the way to closing – and I am looking forward to it.

Opportunity is about to knock. Listen Closely for the sounds of great new community blossoming right before your eyes.

Lovely “Painted Lady” in Nelson to Have New Owner

Thursday, June 6th, 2013

Just for the uninitiated, “a Painted Lady” is an affectionate name for beautiful old Victorian homes that were often painted in pastel colors. You can find whole blocks of them in older Southern cities like Savannah or Charleston.

This lovely example is a 1930’s vintage beauty, which reportedly served as the Boarding House for the teachers hired for children of the workers employed by the Georgia Marble Company. It would certainly appear that the fireplace is adorned with Etowah Pink marble from this area. The front steps and steps coming up from the hill clearly came from the local mine.

I have been working with this client for a long time and am delighted to have assisted her in finding and purchasing her dream home.

Maybe I can help you find yours too.
