Golf In Bent Tree

by Don Martin ~ August 17th, 2008

As we were playing the Trouts Community Charity Open last week on Bent Tree’s beautiful Joe Lee designed course and again on Saturday when I had an old friend from Peachtree City up to play the course, I was reminded just what a beautiful course this is and how many lovely homes line its 18 fairways.

Mountain golf courses come in all sizes and shapes – some are unforgivingly severe and some are so wide open and gentle that you forget you are in the mountains.  Mr.  Lee did a near perfect job of matching the course design to the terrain and creating a challenging, but fair, golf experience.  The fairways are in great shape and the greens are smooth and fast.  There are some elevation changes, but they really work well and some of the most significant changes were placed between holes so that your golf cart is challenged rather than your golf game.  My old friend belongs a golf club in Peachtree City and can play on any of 7 courses locally.  The fact that he is always ready to drive 2 hours each way to play on Bent Tree is a testament to just what a special course it is.

For many golfers the “ultimate” in location for a permanent residence or a vacation home is to have a home “on” the golf course.  Bent Tree’s community designers and Mr. Lee did a good job over 30 years ago of providing golf course frontage lots without having the homes intrude on the golf course.  I have played on some very expensive country club courses lined with $Million homes that were “in play” way too often.  That is not a good experience –especially at those prices!  Generally speaking, the homes on the Bent Tree golf course are closer at the tees and perhaps overlooking some greens, but along the fairways they are set well back so that a really errant shot may go out of bounds into their lot but not up to the house and usually there are plenty of woods between the rough line and the property line so even a poor shot rarely leaves the course.

There are currently 9 golf course homes for sale in Bent Tree and they range from $187,500 to $499,900.  One of my favorites is actually one of our listings.  (Torrey Mountain Properties, Inc.  678-452-2100.)  The home is very attractively priced at $425,000.  It backs up to the 2nd tee and you can actually kibitz with golfers playing the hole while you watch their tee shots and their approach shots all from the back deck.  The house is located at 2 Tamarack Drive and you can see more information on it at my current website (http://www.MartinMountainProperties.com)  (or in a few weeks you will be able to see it on my new Bent Tree web site ( http://www.Bent-TreeRealEstate.com .  I will be sure and send you an announcement when the site is up!)

The home sits gracefully on a double lot with a creek directly on the 2nd fairway.  There is extensive landscaping around the home and the exterior is a virtually maintenance free combination of stone and vinyl siding. The home is solidly built from its steel rebar concrete reinforced foundation up through its 2×6 framing to the stately gabled roof.  The mechanicals include dual gas furnaces and an oversized water heater.  The interior is finished with beautiful detail everywhere you look.  The home was built by one of our long time Bent Tree residents who has built several homes here and has obviously learned some valuable lessons along the way.  The home flows beautifully from the gracious entrance to a large living area and a formal dining room back to a glass walled breakfast room looking out to the 2nd tee and inward to a beautiful and very functional kitchen.  The home is a split bedroom plan with 2 bedrooms and a bath on one wing and the master and laundry on the other wing.  Downstairs there is a den, a full bath and craft room – it could be a completely self contained in-law or teen suite – and lots of storage space.  If you are looking for a beautifully finished home situated perfectly on a great golf course then you owe it to yourself to come take a look at this great home.

If you are looking for a golf course home, but this just doesn’t sound like the right one we’ll be glad to show you any of the other 8 as well.  Whatever Bent Tree home you choose to buy through us, we will give you one free year of golf so you will be able to check out all those golf course home from the course side!

See you ‘round the mountains,

Don
