Life In North Georgia Supports Jasper Rotary Golf Tournament

by Don Martin ~ September 26th, 2008

Dateline:  Big Canoe Golf Course, September 17, 2008

Last Wednesday 144 golfers teed off in the 19th Annual Rotary Club of Jasper Charity Golf Tournament.  The weatherman had predicted clearing skies and rising temperatures, but he must have been a flat lander from down state because he missed the fact the mountains in North Georgia often capture the clouds and hold them and that is exactly what happened last week as we had a cool cloudy day and it was perfect weather for golf.  The Big Canoe course was in great shape ( as usual) and the golfers were in good spirit as they faced the challenging Big Canoe course.     Life In North Georgia blogger, Rotarian and local Realtor, Don Martin, supported the tournament by sponsoring a team and by providing the Grand Prize for the tournament give-away.

Your Life in North Georgia team had a great time, made some great shots, enjoyed some wonderful fellowship and finished far, far back in the middle of the pack.   We were fortunate to be close enough to hear the roar and watch the aftermath of a golfer two groups in front to us making a Hole In One on the Closest to the Pin hole and winning a new car from Lawson Chevrolet.   That story will be in the Pickens Progress and we’ll report on it in a later column.
Life In North Georgia also provided the Grand Prize for this year’s prize drawing.  The Rotary tournament decided long ago not to tie the major prizes to the golf scores.  So winning teams get trophies, but the other prizes - nearly a hundred this year - are warded from a random drawing.    Don Martin, through Life In North Georgia, donated the Grand Prize, which was a week at any one of RCI thousands of resorts around the world.

The winner was Chamber of Commerce Executive President, Denise Duncan.  Denise is reportedly already hard at work planning her family’s winning trip.  We’ll ask Denise to send us some pictures and post them here.

The Fall Charity Golf Season is not over yet, The Prevent Child Abuse Pickens charity golf tournament will be played at Bent Tree’s beautiful Joe Lee designed course on October 8th.  For information on the tournament contact Parish Lowrie at 706-692-6920.

That’s all for this update.  See you ’round the mountains!
