Tater Patch Players Present “Booger Holler Opry”

by Don Martin ~ October 22nd, 2008

Right off the top of my ever balding head, I’m thinking that title is not going to make it up there with “Gone With the Wind” or ” The Sun Also Rises,” never-the-less, you have to admit it is a unique moniker.  We first encountered Booger Holler in the Players first Dinner Theater production “The Last Laugh,”  as the place where Pickens Dickens was headed with his Mrs. Wright.  However,  that small town was reputed to be near the Tallahatchie Bridge, which puts it in one of at least 3 other possible mythical locations.   Author, Carl Japikse has place this local “Holler”  somewhere in the western part of Pickens County down a dirty road in a swampy glade.  (I don’t think even I can write a very good real estate ad for that parcel!)

At any rate, the Players have pulled together an outstanding Jug Band let by Mike Robertson and featuring a member of the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame, Washtub John Katrek.  Mike and Washtub John are joined by Stan and Jan O’Kelley, Jan Davis, Tia Roberston and Laurelei McCarver.  The Jug Band performs 8 hits and is supported by 6 other Tater Patchers providing songs and comic relief.

Last week the show was performed at the Chamber of Commerce and catered by the Fireside Cafe.  This week’s performances are Friday and Saturday night at Club Tamarack in Bent Tree.  Doors open at 7:00 pm for dinner and the show starts at 8:00pm.  This week’s performances are catered by Bent Tree’s 19th Hole restaurant.  Tickets are $33 for dinner and  the show and the show is open to the public.

Tickets are limited to 96 seats per show and must be purchased in advance.  Tickets are available at Jasper Drugs, Hollywood FX, Appalachia Grill and Chestatee Bank near Foothills.  You can also call 770-893-3405 or 770-893-1814 to arrange for tickets.

Come on out and support  your local theater group, the Tater Patch Players, affectionately – and accurately — known as “The Best Little Theater Group in North Georgia.”

See you ’round the Mountains,
